What’s to blame for the rise?

This situation calls for urgent attention and comprehensive measures to address the growing issue of alcohol dependency in the North West region.

Alcohol testing with Atkinson Lewis
Alcohol testing through blood and hair samples could be a highly effective approach to combat the problematic increase in alcohol misuse. Particularly in the problematic area of the North West region.
Here’s how alcohol testing could be used:
1. Comprehensive Testing:
Combining blood and hair alcohol testing provides a comprehensive picture of an individual’s alcohol consumption. Blood testing can detect recent alcohol use. In comparison, hair testing can reveal patterns of long-term consumption. Thus giving a more complete understanding of the extent of alcohol dependency when combined.
2. Early Detection:
Blood alcohol testing can identify recent alcohol consumption. Even before the physical symptoms of dependency become apparent. On the other hand, hair alcohol testing can detect past alcohol use over an extended period (up to 6 months prior to testing). Thus enabling early intervention and support for those at risk of developing dependency.
3. Support for Rehabilitation:
Blood and hair alcohol testing can be instrumental in probation and rehabilitation programs. They can help to promote accountability and monitor compliance with treatment protocols.
4. Legal and Judicial Applications:
Hair testing can serve as crucial evidence in legal and judicial proceedings. Such as in child custody disputes. They can provide clear data on an individual’s alcohol consumption patterns. Including highlighting any increase in alcohol misuse.
However, alcohol testing has its limits. When clinical syndromes such as dependency or harmful drinking are suspected testing should be considered alongside clinical review.
